Uttarakhand is steeped in ancient history and mythology, and the Char Dham is the definitive Hindu pilgrimage through it. Two of the shrines involve a genuine trek on foot, horse or palanquin at altitude, so pack accordingly. The plan is flexible: dates and stops can be adjusted to suit you.

Day 1: Delhi to Barkot
On arrival at Delhi airport or railway station, your driver meets you and you set off through Dehradun and Mussoorie, with a stop at Kempty Falls, before reaching Barkot. Check in on arrival. Overnight in Barkot.

Day 2: Barkot – Yamunotri – Barkot
Drive 36 km to Hanuman Chatti, then take a local jeep to Janki Chatti, which shortens the trek to around 7 km each way. Trek to Yamunotri on foot, by horse or by doli (palanquin) at your own cost. The water in the Yamunotri kund is hot enough to cook rice, which pilgrims carry home as prasad. After darshan and a dip in the warm water, trek back down and drive to Barkot. Overnight in Barkot.

Day 3: Barkot to Uttarkashi
Drive about 174 km (around 7 hours) to Uttarkashi, one of the most scenic valleys in the region, stopping at Gangnani for a dip in its hot spring. Dinner and overnight stay in Uttarkashi.

Day 4: Uttarkashi – Gangotri – Uttarkashi
Drive to Gangotri, about 110 km round trip, where the Ganga is known by its source name, Bhagirathi. Take a holy dip, perform puja and enjoy the surroundings. Stop at Harsil for lunch on the way back. Dinner and overnight stay in Uttarkashi.

Day 5: Uttarkashi to Rudraprayag
After an early breakfast, a long drive of about 283 km (around 9 hours) to Rudraprayag. Settle into your hotel and rest. Dinner and overnight stay in Rudraprayag.

Day 6: Rudraprayag to Kedarnath
Drive about 75 km to Gaurikund for a holy dip at Taptakund, then begin the 14 km trek to Kedarnath on foot or by pony or doli. Carry personal medicines, warm woollens, toiletries and clothes for the overnight stay. Arrive in the evening for darshan, aarti and puja at Kedarnath Temple. Dinner and overnight stay at Kedarnath. Day 7: Kedarnath to Guptakashi
After breakfast, trek back down, stopping at Taptakund before driving on to Guptakashi. Dinner and overnight stay in Guptakashi.

Day 8: Guptakashi to Badrinath
Drive about 165 km (around 7 hours) to Badrinath. Take darshan at the temple and visit nearby Mana Village. Dinner and overnight stay in Badrinath.

Early-morning darshan at Badrinath, then drive about 44 km (around 3 hours) to Joshimath. Overnight in Joshimath.

Day 10: Joshimath to Rishikesh
Early morning, visit the Narsingh Temple and Shankaracharya Math, then drive about 254 km (around 8 hours) to Rishikesh. Check in on arrival. Overnight in Rishikesh.

Day 11: Rishikesh – Haridwar – Delhi
After breakfast, visit Lakshman Jhula and the temples of Rishikesh, then drive back to Delhi or your onward destination via Haridwar, about 35 km away. Tour ends.
